A fire safety drill was conducted in the school premises on 03rd October 2025 to strengthen awareness and preparedness among the staff members. The session was conducted by Shri Rajesh Sabnis, Field Trainer from NFSC.
During the drill, emphasis was laid on the importance of involvement of all members in ensuring safe evacuation and managing emergency situations. Challenges of fire safety such as panic, lack of resources, and spread of misinformation were discussed in detail. Effective communication was highlighted as one of the most crucial aspects during emergencies. Participants were informed that while giving a fire alert, the message should include the type of fire, the exact landmark location, and the scale of threat, so that timely and accurate action can be taken.
The trainer explained the significance of resources and emergency measures, stressing the need for sufficient fire extinguishers, alarms, and trained staff. The session also covered the three major categories of fire threats—electrical, chemical, and section-wise hazards inside the premises. It was emphasized that misinformation or delay in communication can cause casualties and that accurate, first-hand information is essential. The need to set priorities and maintain teamwork during evacuation and rescue operations was strongly underlined.
Different types of fire extinguishers and their uses were demonstrated. Water type extinguishers are suitable for ordinary fires involving paper or wood, foam type for flammable liquids, and CO2 or dry powder type for electrical and chemical fires. Participants were advised to target the heart of the fire while extinguishing and to ensure that extinguishers are properly maintained with regular pressure checks. Preventive measures, suitability risk analysis, and fire safety audits were also discussed to avoid fire hazards.
The drill concluded with a practical demonstration where staff were trained to operate extinguishers and follow evacuation procedures. Safety measures such as identifying safe assembly points, emergency contact protocols, and providing first aid before external help arrives were reinforced. The fire safety drill was highly informative and practical, spreading awareness on preparedness, communication, teamwork, and preventive action. It equipped the school staff with valuable knowledge and confidence to respond effectively to fire emergencies.
